Department of Zoology

Welcome to the Department of Zoology at our college, a trailblazing institution with roots tracing back to 1964. Originally established as the Department of Biology, offering a pre-degree course, it evolved in 1967 into two distinct entities: the Department of Zoology and the Department of Botany, marking a significant milestone as the first-degree course in the college's history.

In 2016, the Department achieved recognition as a Star Department under the esteemed Star College Scheme of DBT (Department of Biotechnology). This distinction has significantly elevated our teaching standards, providing state-of-the-art infrastructure for classroom instruction and student seminars. Our well-equipped laboratories serve as a hub for cultivating research aptitude in Zoology, and we take pride in our students consistently securing University Ranks.

A noteworthy extension activity has been in place since 2010, involving hemoglobin testing during medical camps held in various tribal settlements across Kerala. Further diversifying our offerings, the department provides a certificate course in Apiculture and Aquarium Management. In collaboration with KUFOS (Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies), selected students in semesters II and IV receive specialized training in Fish Taxonomy.

In a forward-looking move, the department has introduced a new add-on course in science communication starting in 2023. This innovative addition reflects our commitment to preparing students for diverse and evolving roles in the scientific community.
