The Department of Mathematics has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1964 under the leadership of Prof. P. J. Chacko. Initially, operating at the Pre-University level, it evolved into an undergraduate department in 1967 and later achieved postgraduate status in 1995, affiliated with the University of Kerala. The postgraduate program transitioned to a semester system in 2003, while the undergraduate program adopted a choice-based credit and semester system in 2010, aligning with university regulations.

The transformative journey of the department, guided by notable figures like Prof. G. Thomas, Prof. John K. John, Prof. Anantharama Sharma, Prof. Y. Kalyanasundaram, Prof. K. With a team of eight dedicated full-time faculty members, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics is actively involved in organizing annual workshops and seminars, often receiving support from state and national-level funding agencies. The students consistently exhibit excellence in university examinations and actively participate in various activities such as seminars, internships, quizzes, and competitive examinations. The department facilitates student placements in banks and corporate firms through organized drives and extends internship opportunities to students from other higher education institutions.

The overarching objective of the department is to expose talented young minds to logical and mathematical reasoning, fostering independent thinking and preparing students for advanced mathematical pursuits.
