ADINISMO- English Association 2024

Under the auspices of Department of English, a programme, "ADINISMO", has organized as part of English Association on 07 March 2024 in the Audio Visual Hall. The programme holds two session: Session 1; "Grooming and Public Speaking" by Dr Lyna Das, Actor/ Model and Anchor and Session 2; "Voice Workshop and Hands on Training in Dubbing" by Ms Devi S, Dubbing Artiste.

The famous Children’s writer Ms Khyrunnisa A readily agreed to give our students an online interview on her Butterfingers’ series and her latest novel ‘Us in the US' on 28 December 2022. Meeval C Symon and Smitha Mariam Reji were the moderators of the podcast.

Say No To Drugs

There was a session on Anti-Narcotics and “Say No to Drugs”, in the first year BACE classroom on 07 October 2022. There were powerpoint presentations by the students, Abhidev R S Pillai and Akash Lalu, and also by Ms Lalitha Joseph.

75th Anniversary of Anne Frank’s ‘Diary of a Young Girl’-

The students of third year BA English and Communicative English observed the 75th anniversary of the publication of the ‘Diary of a Young Girl’ by Anne Frank on 04 July 2022. The speakers threw light on the history and background of the diary. Silla Theresa, Betty Shaiju, Kesiya Sara Baiju and Janaki BS shared their views on the book.

Webinar on Reading Cricket

The International webinar series on Reading Cricket was organized by the Department of English in November and December, 2020. Cultural studies of sport is a fascinating area of scholarly enquiry. There is rich body of scholarship on cricketing cultures, inspired by the Caribbean thinker C.L.R. James’ haunting question, “What do they know of cricket who only cricket know?” This webinar series brought together a handful of renowned scholars in an attempt to introduce the audience to the possibilities of reading the world through cricket. The Resource Persons for the sessions were Mr Ramachandra Guha (Historian, Biographer, and Cricket Writer), Mr Nissim Mannathukkaren (Dalhousie University, Canada), Ms Claire Westall (University of York, UK) and Mr Souvik Naha (Durham University, UK).

A total of 190 participants were registered for the webinar series. Online Feedback forms were also uploaded after each session.

Inter-department Virtual Literary Fest

The SJC Oratory Training Club in collaboration with the Literary Club of the English department conducted an array of inter department competitions as part of Era Novum, the three-day Inter-department Virtual Literary Fest from March 19 to 21, 2021. Inter-department elocution, debate, versification, mono-act, short-story, essay, reading and film review competitions were conducted.

English Literary Association Inauguration

Xheora 2K19, the inauguration of the English Literary Association was done in the Audio Visual Theatre on March 3, 2019. Dr Kaikasi V S, Assistant Professor of English, University College, Thiruvananthapuram inspired the students about the possibilities of Literature.

A One Day Workshop on the topic “Film Studies: Perspectives” conducted on January 29, 2019 in the Mar Gregorios Auditorium. The Resource Person was Mr Vishnu Prasad. The funding was done from the sanctioned money for the UGC sponsored Add on Course as part of the same.

The department organised an inter department English recitation competition on January 11, 2019 in the Audio Visual Theatre. Soumya S of II Physics secured the first position.
